UNLOCTEAM INPUT

Unlocteam is proud to be a partner for Ukrainian localization to this critically acclaimed survival game sequel. We had a huge task in front of us: original Subnautica has really great quality localization, and we needed to not only keep the same style but also give a full impression of flowing story.

Localization

In the past, we noticed, that in many languages players have some difficulties in survival games. Most games of this genre require resource gathering, recipes search, item craft, and base building. And in many cases, those languages do not have strong communities to create localized Wiki for these games. As a result, people often can’t find answers on the Internet on where to find resources, how to craft, etc.

With several other projects, we’ve started an experiment that was so successful, that we use it in many similar games now. We add English names for resources and items in the item description or under its name.

Local players can easily find the proper item on the Internet. Also, this approach helps players create their wikis faster since they do not need to match the adapted names with the original in a huge part of the wiki such as Items. We still experiment with this solution.

Quality Assurance

During Localization QA you also pay attention to everything in game because never know where some text-related bugs can appear. That is why we always keep informing devs about issues we find, even if they are related more to gameplay.

Here are some of the examples.

Afterwords

Subnautica is another great example of a game, where developers listen to fans a lot and, moreover, react to them. And not only in gameplay or mechanics terms, but everything localization-related as well. We were really touched on how quickly they respond to issues we rise, and we hope to continue our partnership.
