This game is a treasure of the year 2017 for Android and iOS, for Steam as well. It was in the top lists of many game media several times during the year. And it’s a real indie masterpiece.
The way the developer and the team realized the Hidden Objects genre here is amazing. If you remember “Where’s Wally?”, this game is for you. But the main “thing” that catches you, of course, will be… sounds… How so, you ask? All sounds of the game are created with mouth… literally speaking. And all these sounds are rally adorable and fun, so you simply want to click on every object on the map to hear it. And you have a lot to click on.
Our goal in this localization was to make understandable but in some way complicated clues, so players could have some challenges in finding hidden people on the screen, but not to the point “I’ll smash my computer if won’t find them in 30 seconds”.
And it was quite a challenge because all original clues contain as many puns as we never have met in any other games with a much bigger scope of words. And localization is critically important in puns as, for example, local Australian jokes can be tough for Nordic people and vice versa.
Though the Hidden Folds is a considerably small project, we learned a thing or two from it in localizing puns and finding the golden mean between understandable yet challenging clues.
